Qatar’s businesses are growing fast, and many are outgrowing spreadsheets, basic accounting software and disconnected HR tools. At the same time, compliance is getting tighter: payroll must run through the Wage Protection System, corporate tax filings go through Dhareeba, and a new e-invoicing law is on its way.
ERPNext is an open-source ERP that brings accounting, inventory, sales, purchasing, HR, payroll and projects into one system, with no per-user licence fees. That makes it a strong option for Qatari SMEs and growing companies that want a complete system without the licence costs of SAP, Oracle or Microsoft Dynamics.
This guide explains what ERPNext implementation in Qatar involves: costs, process, timelines and the local requirements your system must handle.
Key Takeaways
ERPNext has no licence fees; costs come from implementation, hosting and support.
Qatar-specific setup centers on WPS payroll, end-of-service gratuity, GRSIA for Qatari staff and QAR multi-currency accounting.
Qatar has no VAT yet, but a draft e-invoicing law was approved by the Cabinet in May 2026.
Corporate income tax applies to the share of profits attributable to foreign owners and is filed through Dhareeba.
A typical SME implementation takes weeks to a few months, depending on scope and data.
Why Qatari Businesses Choose ERPNext
No licence fees. ERPNext is fully open source, so you don’t pay per user as your team grows. Your budget goes into setting it up properly.
Everything in one system. Accounting, inventory, sales, purchasing, manufacturing, projects, HR and payroll share the same data.
Arabic and English. ERPNext supports Arabic, right-to-left layouts and bilingual print formats, so invoices and documents can be issued in both languages.
Multi-company and multi-currency. Run several entities, trade in QAR, USD, EUR and other currencies, and consolidate reports.
Ready for e-invoicing. As Qatar’s e-invoicing framework takes shape, ERPNext’s structured data makes integration far easier than with spreadsheets or basic tools.
Flexible hosting. Run it in the cloud or on your own servers, depending on your data and security preferences.
Local Requirements Your ERP Must Handle in Qatar
1. WPS payroll (Wage Protection System)
Private-sector employers must pay wages in Qatari riyals into employees’ accounts at banks registered in Qatar, through WPS, within 7 days of the due date. Fines for breaches range from QAR 2,000 to 10,000.
Your payroll system must:
Pay salaries in QAR through WPS
Generate the salary information file (SIF) in your bank’s required format
Match paid wages to contracted wages, since discrepancies are flagged
In ERPNext: salary structures and payroll entries generate the WPS bank file, so payroll and payments stay consistent.
2. End-of-service gratuity
Expatriate employees with at least one year of service are entitled to a minimum gratuity of three weeks’ basic wage per year of service, pro-rated for partial years and calculated on the last basic wage.
In ERPNext: gratuity rules calculate accruals monthly and the final amount at exit, so liabilities are always visible in your accounts.
3. Leave and working hours
Employees with one to five years of service receive three weeks of annual leave, rising to four weeks after five years. Standard working hours are 48 per week, reduced to 36 during Ramadan.
In ERPNext: leave policies, shifts, Ramadan schedules and overtime are configured once and applied automatically.
4. GRSIA for Qatari nationals
Qatari nationals in the private sector are covered by GRSIA, with contributions of 14% from the employer and 7% from the employee on pensionable salary. Expatriates are outside the scheme.
In ERPNext: separate salary components handle GRSIA for Qatari staff only.
5. Corporate income tax and Dhareeba
Qatar’s corporate income tax applies to profits attributable to non-Qatari (and non-GCC) ownership, while the Qatari-owned share is generally exempt. Registration, returns and payments are handled through the General Tax Authority’s Dhareeba platform. Entities in the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) follow a separate tax regime.
In ERPNext: cost centers, ownership-based reporting and year-end closing produce the financial statements your tax adviser needs for Dhareeba filing.
6. Upcoming e-invoicing
Qatar’s Cabinet approved a draft e-invoicing law on 6 May 2026. It isn’t in force yet, and no go-live date or technical specification has been published. Neighbouring countries have moved to structured XML invoices exchanged with the tax authority, and Qatar is expected to follow a similar path.
What to do now: keep customer and supplier data clean, use a system that produces structured invoice data, and avoid custom invoicing tools that will be hard to connect later.
7. Currency and bilingual documents
Accounts in QAR, with multi-currency trading and automatic exchange gain and loss calculations. Arabic and English print formats for invoices, quotations and delivery notes.
8. Data protection
Qatar’s Personal Data Privacy Protection Law governs how personal data, including employee and customer data, is handled. Choose hosting and access controls that support your obligations.
How Much Does ERPNext Cost in Qatar?
ERPNext has no licence fees. Your investment covers:
Cost area | What it includes |

What affects the price

Data quality in your current system
Customization vs standard features
Integrations with banks, POS or other systems
ERPNext vs licensed ERPs
ERPNext | Per-user licensed ERPs | |
|---|---|---|
Licence fees | None | Per user, per month or year |
Adding 20 more users | No licence cost | Licence bill increases |
Modules | All included | Often sold separately |
Customization | Full access | Often limited or costly |
Because licence fees are the largest ongoing cost of most ERPs, ERPNext’s total cost over three to five years is usually much lower. Comparing options? See ERPNext vs Odoo.
